We often imitate and follow leaders. We want to be members of some community. We desperately want to be included, wanted, appreciated, etc. Thus we often do foolish things through uncritical imitation and following. Much that other people do is disintegrative, alienative, destructive, illogical, unreasonable, useless, fruitless and/or incoherent. In such instances following and/or imitating them is foolish or worse. It is particularly foolish for us to follow and/or imitate others in their actions towards us which are disintegrative, alienative, destructive, illogical, unreasonable, useless, fruitless and/or incoherent TOWARDS US. Then we do to ourselves what they have done to us--- without recognizing how utterly foolish it is to do so. If we are willing to be so utterly foolish---how can anybody protect us against our own foolishness? In our foolishness we often predict that we will be unable to do anything right, well, correctly, properly, etc. Such a prophesy is clearly not objective---it is destructively reflexive in that it is self-fulfilling in a self-destructive way. How more disintegrative can we get than that? By copying other people who do that without recognizing how utterly disintegrative that is! (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
