     It  is helpful to create and maintain half-way houses
within  communities which are dedicated to helping  people
in   transition   from  a  dysfunctional  paradigm  to   a
functional paradigm.

     In   half-way  houses  leaders  of  the   communities
centered  there  do not regard their houses as  places  in
which to exercise all of their freedoms without regard for
the needs of  people  who  are  in  transition  from their
dysfunctional   paradigms   of   origin---to   hoped   for
functional paradigms  of  personal and communal integrity.
In such half-way houses leaders  of  the community seek to
facilitate  transitions  from dysfunctional  paradigms  to
functional paradigms.

     The full exercise  of  personal freedoms  within  the
framework  of functional paradigms is likely  to  threaten
people beginning to make the transition and so will not be
helpful to them.   Premature threats are likely to trigger
defensive reflex behaviors and undermine the   possibility
of transcending the dysfunctional paradigms of origin.

     Half-way houses need  to be places within communities
which  provide secure  contexts in which open  and  honest
dialogue becomes possible to people who are in transition.
True  security  is  known  as the  freedom  to  be  safely
vulnerable.   Abrupt  changes  and  threats  made  by  the
exercise of all the freedoms  of  people  who enjoy living
within  functional  paradigms---are  changes  and  threats
which are  likely  to undermine  the  possibility of   new
people   making   the  transition---and  so  need  to   be
charitably  avoided  within  half-way  houses  and   their
