Their own desires, hopes, aspirations, attitudes, fears, anxieties and other personal experiences---for they fail regularly in trying to control them. 2. Their own personal ideals, values and goals---for they have been chosen in response to communal reflexive considerations which they cannot understand, manipulate or control. 3. Their own contexts, environments & communities--- for they are beyond the realms where scientific objectivity, analysis, understanding, manipulation and control engender enduring respect and support. 4. The broader contexts which are beyond those things which they seek to analyze, understand, manipulate and control---for only very small elementary things can seem to be successfully analyzed, understood, manipulated and controlled. For the above reasons scientists (and their admirers) who are fixated upon issues of analytic understanding, manipulation and control---cannot REASONABLY focus their own or other people's attention only upon: 1. Parts of wholes, but not upon the integrity of wholes within their total contexts. 2. Smaller and smaller parts which most readily yield to attempts to analyze, understand, manipulate and control them. 3. Impersonal and/or non-living things with sufficiently low levels of complexity---which make possible the appearance of success in analysis, understanding, manipulation AND CONTROL. 4. Non-contextual considerations which avoid the expansion of the scope of consideration into realms where analysis, understanding, prediction and control are impotent. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
