Devils? Evils? Sins? Non-conformity? Conformity? Condemnations? Judgments? Rejections? Fears? Egos or God? Our personal and communal integrity depend greatly upon what we fear most, and in what way we manage our fears. The focus of our fears and how we manage our fears are motivated and directed by how we conceive, conceptualize and realize (make-real) our ultimate concerns, fears and defenses. Do we conceive and conceptualize within the context of threats of alienation, excommunication, rejection and exclusion? Then we are likely to be defensive and echo the nature of the context within which we conceive and conceptualize the expressions of our ultimate: fears, devils, evils, sins, condemnations, judgments, rejections, fears, egos and gods. Do we conceive and conceptualize within the context of true hopes of acceptance, communion, dialogue, and inclusion? Then we are likely to enjoy giving and receiving free gifts of true security known as the freedom to be safely vulnerable---through expressions of trust, love, acceptance, listening, inclusion, responsiveness and remembrance. In the former instance we are likely to promote disintegrative fears. In the latter instance we seek to transcend and calm disintegrative fears. In the former instance our egos are central actors in the tragic drama of our defenses against all that we conceptualize, realize and fear. In the latter instance we transcend the motivations and guidance of our egos as independent realities fighting for survival---and find that they are not ultimately real and so do not survive our transcendence of them. So long as we regard our egos as ultimate realities, we are bound to fear each other's disposition to engage in ultimate conflicts with each other---in battles for ultimate survival in a competitive cosmos. Ultimate egos are not dedicated to promoting personal and communal integrity. Ultimate egos are dedicated to survival no matter what the cost in honesty, integrity, communication and spiritual connections. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
