How we spend our limited time leads us to exclude some possibilities from our lives and from the lives of those whom we lead and teach. What we exclude from our lives is very important; it is how we say what is most important to us, and how we lead others to decide what is most important to them. If we are exclusively objective in how we approach our relationships---we exclude from our lives and from the lives of those who learn from us those integrative relationships which are reflexive; inter-connecting people with each other in intimate ways which entail reflexive honesty, personal integrity and communal integrity. Integrative personal relationships are spiritual relationships. Spiritual relationships are reflexive integrative relationships. If we are reductionists and believe and act as if everything is dealt with when we deal with objective relationships---then we exclude reflexive relationships which are essential to our personal and communal integrity, and to healthy spiritual living. Reductionists reduce all realities to those realities which they regard as important; reducing them to combinations of those realities which they regard as important---and thereby exclude from their understanding those realities which are complementary to those which they regard as important. Their vocabulary of words and experiences does not span the full range of human experiences and is inadequate to communicating about the full range of human experiences. For them, some experiences remain for them beyond the range of description and conscious consideration. Such experiences cannot be dealt with wisely in any conscious way which is open to conscious dialogue. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
