Much of human dis-ease is rooted in being ill-at- ease because of unresolved conflicts within self, unresolved conflicts between self and others, and unresolved conflicts among ideals and values. Just as a community which is engaged in a civil war cannot heal, so also a person who is internally engaged in a civil war among internalized ideals and values cannot heal. Just as a community dominated by rival factions of members who do not honestly communicate with each other and so do understand each other (and vice versa) cannot heal and be well, so also a person whose being is fragmented into playing roles which do not honestly communicate with each other and so do not inform each other is a person cannot heal and be well. Healing and health remain out of reach until unresolved conflicts are openly and honestly identified and dealt with---both within communities and within individual members of communities. The two processes are mirror images of each other; so it is hard to get one image to change without getting the mirror image to change as well. In the objective world of our every-day experiences when the reality changes the mirror image in a mirror changes automatically. In the world of intra-personal and inter-personal relationships regarded as mirror images of each other the two images do not change automatically when either one of them changes. The process which changes one of the images does not automatically lead to the change in the other. There must be two coordinated process which lead to coordinated which changes in the images of the community within the members, and which change the images of the members within the community. Such coordinated processes are essentially impossible within a community which is dominated by addictive, codependent and collusive games of mutual self deception. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
