In her book "The Addictive Organization" Anne Wilson Schaef explored the ways in which addictive people working within an organization can generate systemic patterns of addiction and codependence as systemic diseases which undermine the integrity of the organization and its participant members. We may do well to consider how an organization as a corporate entity may take on the character of a person playing a role in a dysfunctional addictive/codependent intimate relationship. Some codependent people may become perversely dependent upon an addictive organization, just as some codependent people become perversely dependent upon an addictive person for affirmations which are perverted. Some addictive people may become perversely codependent upon a codependent organization, just as some addictive people become perversely codependent upon a codependent person as a provider of essential services. Perverse patterns of behavior need to be recognized and talked about openly and honestly to facilitate wise responses to them.
