Specialized technocrats cannot find grounds within their specialized paradigms for true mutual respect, acceptance, dialogue, and cooperation; for respect must, according to their paradigm, be based upon competency and achievements which are fully enough understood to be profoundly criticized if they are imperfect. Personal acceptance is a scarce resource in the lives of technocrats. Technocrats not experienced true unconditional personal acceptance, love, affirmations, and affection. Because personal acceptance is a scarce resource in the lives of technocrats, they feel that they must budget personal acceptance to be used only in the case of extreme merit; for those people who are technocratically the most perfect people. Because they have experienced so little unconditional personal acceptance, technocrats fear that they will run out of their limited supply of personal acceptance, and fear to give away what little genuine personal acceptance they have experienced. Thus technocrats become hypercritical perfectionists who rarely find grounds for accepting and affirming anybody. Technocratic patterns of behavior lead to alienation and evil relationships which generate personal and communal disintegration; and so generate more technocrats seeking security through defensive manipulations, rather than through gifts of the freedom to be safely vulnerable in relationships characterized by unconditional personal acceptance into dialogue and community. There are many kinds of technocrats: scientific, engineering, political, religious, moralistic, ethical, legalistic, medical, educational, militaristic, artistic, musical, literary, professional, police, etc. The manifestations of technocracy vary according to the specialties of the technocrats, but there are profound similarities in their patterns of behavior regardless of specialty.
