A person is either good or evil, an action is either good or evil, a person is either saved or dammed. Equivocation is a sign of the work of the devil. In each and every situation a stand must be taken. To fail to take a stand is to surrender to the devil. Dichotomous thinkers are victims of the patterns of thoughts of addicts and codependents who are preoccupied with issues of control. Issues of control are simplified when they are reduced to questions of either/or. It is apparently easier to deal with conflicts if each person is either enemy or foe, good or evil, saved or dammed and expendable. Dichotomous thinkers cannot accept mysteries or sacred relationships which are full of ambiguity. In holy I-Thou relationships not everything is either/or and so dichotomous thinkers avoid holy I-Thou relationships; including holy I-Thou relationships with God. They are alienated from themselves, from each other, and from healthy people. They spend a goodly portion of their time in hell. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
