What often appears to be impossible in the reflexive realm, becomes possible through faith which helps people to realize what it is that they most deeply desire for themselves and for each other. Faith may pertain to the realm of possible objective relationships; but it is misleading to focus upon possible objective relationships when seeking to discover the realm of true faith. Faith is not the process of trying to believe that impossible objective relationships are likely to be realized. That process is misleading, and leads to dishonesty which undermines true faith. True faith entails truly responsive openness and honesty; not games of mutual self deception. True faith pertains to transcending the collusive games of mutual self deception which poison the quality and extent of possible personal relationships, connections, dialogue, conversation, and conversion. Such dishonest games stand in the way of true faith; for openness, responsiveness and honesty will undermine the misleading games and bring them to an end. Through true faith we come to realize together what is possible in authentic personal relationships, when we are working together cooperatively in getting to really know each other person. True faith does not exist as objects exist in the objective world; and true faith cannot be seen as objects are seen with the eyes of objectivity. True faith exists in the realm of authentic inter- personal relationships which are not objective realities. True faith cannot be manipulated and controlled as impersonal objects can be manipulated and controlled. The ways of true faith cannot be predicted, as can the ways and paths of objects moving through limited space and time. The ways of true faith are not uncertain, indeterminate and unpredictable as are the paths of impersonal objects moving through limited space and time. Neither are they certain in the ways of deterministic classical mechanical objects apparently moving according to exact and perfect differential equations of motion. The realm of faith relationships cannot be described accurately in the same manner as the realm of objective relationships. The two realms are complementary, not alike; orthogonal, not parallel. In the objective realm changes in positions of charged particles moving along one line of motion are related to velocity changes along orthogonal lines of motion. So also, changes in the realms of faith may be related to changes within orthogonal realms of objective events. Changes need not be parallel to each other to be inter-related. Changes in realities which cannot be seen with the eyes of objectivity, are often related to changes in the realm of objects which can be seen with the eyes of objectivity. The realm of faith has more to do with personal ideals, values, goals, attitudes, and life styles; than with impersonal relationships, measurements, objects, means, and technologies. The realm of faith has more to do with realizing personal possibilities; than with achieving objective goals. To realize our personal possibilities the blockages of our collusive games of mutual self deception must be transcended through faith with mutual encouragement of real people. Through faith those personal possibilities which initially appeared to be impossible are realized as miracles. Such miraculous realizations are not achieved through technical fixes by means of objective manipulations and controls. Such miraculous realizations are not the fruits of the works of technocrats who are preoccupied with issues of control, management, manipulation and fixes. Faith does not focus upon carefully defined imperfections, but upon facilitating honest conversations regarding real experiences. Through such honest conversations faith transcends the confusing dishonest barriers to personal and communal integrity. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
