They have not been trained to have such grounds; and in fact most of their training tends to undercut any intuitive grounds they had as children in terms of which to accept, respect or listen to their own deepest being. When we do not accept, respect or listen to some other person, there are bound to be misunderstandings, conflicts and violence between us and the other person; covert if not overt in character. When we do not accept, respect or listen to some aspects of our own self, there are bound to be misunderstandings, conflicts and violence within us; covert if not overt in character. Ignorance regarding our own deepest experiences, feelings, emotions, fears, apprehensions, hopes, aspirations, motivations, etc. does not form a solid foundation on which to build a system for wise decision making. No matter how informed and sophisticated the system may be in terms of external realities, it will be built on the quick sands of changing internal realities about which we are ignorant. If we are ignorant of those aspects of ourselves with are most intimately our own, we are in no position to be informed about the same kinds of aspects in others; and so in no position to actively listen to what others have to tell us about themselves. Thus we are bound to be ignorant about much that would be essential to wise decision making in cooperative ventures of all kinds; including ventures within the communities which are most compulsively objective, analytic, quantitative, computational, etc. Wise human interactions depend critically upon free flowing information about what is most intimately characteristic of those who engage in the interactions. Any considerations which inhibit openness and honesty threaten the integrity of the individuals and their communities. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
