The differences are not clear to the codependent. The codependent seeks to solve other people's problems for them, when the other people need to solve their own problems and resolve their own dilemmas. The codependent tends to become involved in problems which they do not own and cannot properly own with integrity. Technicians are trained to solve technical problems, but they are not taught how to recognize the differences between caring about other people, sympathizing with other people as they deal with their dilemmas and problems, and in an expert way solving other people's problems for them. The technicians get their good feelings out of solving other people's problems for them, and so they tend to fall into the patterns of feeling, thought and behavior which are characteristically codependent. Because they are trained experts doing what they have been trained to do, they tend to be respected when they are trying to solve other people's problems in technical ways; even when their behavior is characteristically codependent in nature. Technocrats are codependent technicians who are celebrating their technical skills (of whatever degree of sophistication) in efforts to be of service to other people by solving their problems for them. Situations are analyzed in ways which portray them as requiring that the particular technical skills of the technocratic advisor who seeks to be of codependent service. Some people become addicted to such codependent technical services, and regard themselves as being sophisticated because they are dependent upon the advanced technical services of sophisticated codependent technocrats. The liberal education of future technicians will include helping them to understand the relationships between codependent technocrats and people who are addicted to the services of codependent technocrats. In contrast the imprisoning education of future technocrats will not be inclusive in that way, and will be more highly specialized with its focus more narrowly limited to purely technical skills and considerations.
