     Honest  scholars seek to lay the foundations for  the
liberal  education  of the next generation of students  by
revealing  the  dynamics of addicts'  collusive  games  of
mutual self deception;  whether the addicts be regarded as
not  worthy of respect,  or as respectable researchers and
scholars with many publications to their name.

     There are many kinds of addicts.  There are  scholars
who are addicted to the publish-or-perish-paradigm of pure
research;  who are willing  to  sacrifice intimate  family
relationships and authenticity for their scholarly fixes.

     Authentically   honest   scholars  are   not  seeking
scholarly  technological  fixes  to  compensate  for   the
intimate relationships which are missing from their lives.
The essence of liberal scholarship is not technological in
character;   although it is possible for there to be  high
levels   of  technical  sophistication   associated   with
authentically  honest  scholarship.  The  latter  does not
indicate  the  former in any  case.   The former need  not
indicate  the latter.   The two are separate and  distinct
aspects of scholarship; yet they are regularly confused by
addictive scholars who have a high reputation  because  of
