People who on a daily basis cope through the use of misleading and dishonest communications will NOT naturally give up these patterns of behavior within their religious communities. To pretend that this is not so, is the front line of defense against the revelation that it is so. The prophet who exposes collusive religious beliefs and doctrines is not likely to be honored at home. False prophets who preach respect for collusions will be honored at home. How are honest seekers after the truth to tell the difference between collusive religious beliefs and doctrines on the one hand, and integrative ones on the other hand? Participants in collusive religious behaviors tend to be fanatical in their affirmations of their beliefs as a compensation for their doubts, uncertainty, and fundamental insecurity. They tend not to be tolerant towards people who are different. Often they are manipulative in their efforts to get others to join them in their beliefs; to get help in defending their insecure system of collusive beliefs. Participants in collusive religious behaviors usually show little or no interest in understanding the religious beliefs and practices of other peoples, saying instead that God will show favor only upon people who believe and do as they themselves believe and do. They are exclusive in their relationships with other people. People who are free of collusive, addictive and codependent beliefs and doctrines feel no need to be exclusive or fanatical. They are tolerant towards and seek to sympathetically understand people who are different from them. They do not try to control others' in any way. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
