     A system which in a  technical way seeks to helpfully
prescribes  how  a person or institution shall respond  to
various  stimuli,   is a prescriptive system which can  be
taken advantage of or abused by a thoughtful person who is
motivated to do so.

     To   be   an apparently helpful prescriptive  system,
such  a  system must be sophisticated,  embody rules for a
large number of different situations,  and provide for the
evaluation  of the propriety of the prescriptions embedded
in the system.  It must be able to recognize prescriptions
which would lead to absurd responses,  and make provisions
for avoiding such absurd responses.

     A    prescriptive   system  which   is   sufficiently
sophisticated  to  be regarded as a helpful system,  is  a
system which has in it the potential for the generation of
an  internal contradiction or double bind,  by the  clever
presentation  by  anti-authoritarians  of  situations  for
which  it  was not adequately programmed.   A   thoughtful
person can recognized the paradigm under which the  system
was  programmed,   the limitations of that paradigm,   and
conjure  up situations for which the paradigm and  program
is not only inadequate,  but which will engender paralysis
within  the  system.   Young children  often  do  this  to
