This suggestion in turn suggests that there is inherent in the nature of self a lack of integrity which can be overcome by powers extrinsic to the self. This in turn leads to the maintenance of an internalized conflict between the extrinsic ideals, principles and/or powers; and whatever it is which is inherent in self which must be brought under external control. There must be a better concept to lead us to personal and communal integrity than the concept of self control. The concept of self control is essentially flawed by how it leads to internalized conflict and disintegration. It may be that the essential laws are written in the heart of each person of integrity, and that there is no real need for extrinsic centers of control. It may be that the disintegration of children of integrity is the result of attempts to control the feelings, perceptions, experiences, thoughts, desires, fears, etc. in terms of extrinsic ideals, principles and powers. Such disintegration which is caused by attempts to control, are then used as the excuse for further attempts to control. It is an evil feed-back loop which is central in the dysfunctional dynamics of many families of origin, and in families within adults of such origins. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
