Such threats are dysfunctional tools/techniques; they do not accomplish that which they ostensibly are designed to accomplish. They generate more rebellion than they generate conformity. They generate the appearance of conformity, but the apparent reality which they generate is the hidden opposite to conformity. Threats of rejection disintegrate the people who are threatened; leading them to appear one way and to become something quite different. The people who are threatened live split/fragmented lives. They cannot be trusted to be open and honest in their communications. It is risky to believe what they to lead you to believe. In this way those people who issue the threats of rejection become alienated from the people whom they try to control through alienative tools and techniques. Rejection and threats of rejection are reflexive tools; i.e., they affect those who threaten and reject by how they affect those who are the intended victims of the actions. Rejection and threats of rejection victimize all who are thereby alienated. Rejection and threats of rejection are dysfunctional tools which are essentially evil. Adults who were threatened and rejected as children are affectively wounded adults. Mere intellectual understanding of the wounds does not fully heal the wounds. The wounds are healed only through genuine reconciliation, forgiveness and mutual acceptance as victims of the threats and rejection. Guilt and shame are not eliminated through exclusively intellectual and scholarly activities. Guilt often involves self rejection in fulfillment of misguided ideals and values which threaten rejection as the just punishment for a failure to conform to what are regarded to good injunctions. When such injunctions are issued in a collusive addictive/codependent community, they lead to evil behavior on the part of all the victims of the dynamic processes which are put into motion. The participants victimize themselves in reflexive ways while thinking/feeling that they are behaving objectively in conformity to proper standards of behavior. They feel guilty when they do not conform to what they regard as proper standards of behavior; yet it is those standards which are leading them in alienative behaviors. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
