Highly intelligent and well educated people engage in sophisticated forms of reality denial to prevent their unstable artificial perceptions of reality from crumbling. Such people and their loved ones cooperate in such ventures in enabling alcoholism, drug abuse, resource abuse, technology abuse, religions extremism, arms races and strategic defense initiatives. Intelligence, logic, objective information, wealth, respectability, power and their like are not reliable indications of the absence of reality denial. People who associate exclusively with their own kind thereby signal their involvement in reality denial. Exclusivity is an attempt to deny reality and to live in a world of pretense. This is true even if the basis of exclusivity is intelligence, logic, objectivity, extensive information, wealth, respectability and/or power. Exclusivity is disintegrative and not an effective foundation for survival. Exclusivity ignores real threats to survival. People who exclude consideration of emotional and affective realities ignore the reality that decisions and actions are more motivated by emotional and affective considerations; than by intellectual, logical, objective and rational considerations. The failure to integrate all kinds of considerations into a coherent whole which makes both intellectual and emotional sense---is part of an immature effort to pretend that human relationships can be understood, predicted and controlled in terms of exclusively intellectual, logical, informational, rational, etc. kinds of knowledge.
