Some words can point to personal realities, yet such
words cannot be used to manipulate, predict or understand
personal realities as numerals and letters can be
manipulated by expert mathematicians in their work and
accomplishments.
The word "integrity" points to and resonates with
realities having to do with being-whole, without-
fractional-parts, coherence, community, unity,
communication, integrated, being-collected-together,
openness and honesty. All such words point to aspects of
the reality of integrity without being means to
understanding, predicting and controlling the reality and
all that resonates with it. Those people who are
preoccupied with finding such manipulative means do not
truly participate in integrity and so do not reveal
integrity in any coherent way.
As we seek to participate in integrity we come to
reveal integrity to those who know us. Integrity is not a
personal achievement of which we can be proud, or for
which we may be properly rewarded. It is impossible to
own integrity or control it. We can not meaningfully
analyze integrity into component parts. Integrity is not
understood and manipulated in terms of its elemental
constituents. Thus integrity is not achieved through
science and technology as are many human technical
accomplishments. Human disintegration is not a technical
problem to be prevented/solved through scientific and
technological means; so neither is alienation,
frustration, anger, or violence.
The way to personal and communal integration is not
plotted by numerical, analytic, technical, moralistic,
legalistic or related manipulative skills. The way to
personal and communal integration is demonstrated by
people who participate in integrity and serve as role
models who point the way by their lives. They are
incarnations of the way. Their words and lives point the
way; yet no technology is the way. No prescription or
formula can specify or control the way to integrity.
