Some people and communities that are alienated from God teach that alienation from God has to do with being rejected by God for not conforming to their moral, doctrinal, ritualistic, sexual, intellectual, and other conformal standards for proper behavior. Such teachings occasion further alienation of people from each other, their communities, and their own perceptions, emotions, thoughts, desires, fears, etc. The efforts to understand and control the alienation further aggravate it in a strange and tragic feed-back loop. Such teachings suggest that the ground of Being who created people would most likely reject people who made mistakes, rather than teach people who make mistakes to learn from their mistakes by being deeply in touch with what it means to be fully human with integrity, both personal and communal. Such teachings tend to undermine communal, inter, and intra personal dialogue; they occasion alienation. Social behavior and acceptance which promote integrity do not flow from such teachings. Threats of alienation from God do not promote personal and communal integrity. Social acceptance of people as able to learn from their experiences does promote personal and communal integrity, as do integrative examples of gracious acceptance of social acceptance as a gift rather than as a business transaction. Social acceptance is essential to personal and communal integrity. Without social acceptance people become alienated from their ground of being: human, whole, integrated, in touch with their own thoughts, feelings, desires, fears, etc. Social rejection does not mean rejection by God for failure to conform to some standard of acceptability, and people who teach that it does do so out of a sense of insecurity because they are alienated from the ground of being fully human.
