Introjected desires undermine the integrity and motivation of the victims of the introjection. People who lack integrity and motivation can not in creative ways bring ideas and people together in coherent ways to strengthen the community. Adults who from their childhood have followed introjected desires can not easily sort out the difference between introjected and authentic desires. Upon what basis and motivated by what desires shall the sorting be accomplished? Shall the sorting please others? Shall the sorting conform to conventional intellectual dictates? To scientists' objective/analytic paradigm? To rebels' calls for rebellion in conformity with their life style? Where is a person who is alienated from their own being to turn for a reunion with their own desires? Introjection of foreign desires undermines personal and communal integrity by inhibiting openness and honesty in community relationships. When one is required/expected to desire conventionally, then one is not free to be in touch with one's own desires; not free to express thoughts and feelings openly and honestly. The way back to wholeness involves working to re-create the context which by its absence occasioned the disintegration. The community can be rebuilt only by desiring and working for open and honest unity so that people can work cooperatively as a cum-unity. The most fundamental human need and desire is to be a meaningful open and honest participant in a community, even though it may be small and threatened by pressures for conformity. Such sub-cultures can leaven the broader community and help it transcend its limited visions and expectations. Reunion with one's own desires becomes possible as one sorts out priorities and learns to affirm those which lead to both personal and communal integrity. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
