Emotions are taboo to people who are ultimately
committed to striving for unbiased objective analysis of
everything but their own self. This is so because
emotions are ultimately occasioned by self referential
considerations which are taboo to people who are
ultimately committed to avoiding participation in self
referential considerations as a means to avoiding bias.
It is a strange theory which anticipates that some
form of exclusivity will lead to the transcendence of
bias. How can unbalanced consideration of evidence
transcend bias? How can exclusion of self referential
considerations lead to balanced understanding of that
which is considered of interest to the annalist?
An ultimate commitment to objective analysis implies
that the annalist believes that which merits analysis can
best be understood by excluding from consideration the
emotions which are aroused upon consideration of that
which is personally most important, threatening, desired,
etc. in the life of the annalist; the factors which arouse
the most intense emotions. This is to say that imbalance
leads to unbiased understanding!
To transcend bias all kinds of connections must be
considered and meaningful integrated into the world-view
which makes sense of all that is understood. Any
transcendent understanding must make sense of all of which
we are aware because in reality all is inter-connected or
potentially inter-connected. It is our desire to perceive
and enjoy a comprehensive understanding of those actual
and possible inter-connections which drives us to search
for the transcendence of bias. Ultimately the search must
lead us to understand both objective and personal inter-
connections and to value both with personal and communal
integrity.
People who are not inter-connected with integrity can
not reasonably hope to understand any objective pattern of
inter-connections. Thus ideals which lead to personal
disintegration, alienation, lead to dis-connections among
people and thus to the blockage of the meaningful
understanding of inter-connections which are among those
which must be included among the objects of attention in
any comprehensive unbiased program of human understanding.
