People of great personal integrity are likely to be perceived as being such threats by virtue of their presence. They by their being demonstrate that people who are not compulsively objective are worthy of great respect and are very attractive people. The feelings of attraction towards such people of integrity must be fought off, else the commitment to objectivity will be weakened. It is clear that people who have such obvious integrity are not compulsively dedicated to objectivity as all people worthy of respect logically should be. Thus the attractions of such people are misleading and an indication of the weakness of the scientists who needs to renew his commitment to objectivity to fight off such attraction. The attraction of such a person of integrity may, be fought off with the observation that the attraction is based upon sexual considerations, rather than upon rational ones. Sexual considerations are not to be trusted and respected. Females can not be trusted to become scientists. They would undermine the integrity of the scientists profession! Only females who lack integrity and are not attractive can be trusted to be scientists. By discouraging attractive females from becoming scientists, real scientists can maintain the purity of their profession. Should people be held responsible for the emotional responses which they elicit in others? Under what circumstances? For the actions they prompt in others? Under what circumstances? When is such responsibility for others' responses not appropriate? What damage can being over-responsible cause? Should people be held responsible for damage done by their being over-responsible? Some people believe that they should be responsible for the proper behavior of other persons. Parents try to assure themselves that their children behave responsibly. Spouses often try to make each other behave responsibly. Teachers seek to assure themselves that their students behave properly. Trying to be responsible for others' responses leads to difficulties for both self and other. Others resent attempts to control them. Failure to control leads to guilt and heightened attempts to control, and heightened rebellion against control. Paternal responsibility needs to be defined in terms which more helpfully acknowledge the limits to human powers and responsibility. People often do not helpfully acknowledge the limits to human powers and responsibility. People can not helpfully be held accountable for how others feel, think, and behave. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
