To lay such foundations it is necessary to lay the foundations for nurturing cognitive dissonances in collusion participants---by injecting into their consciousness transcendent ideals which do not obviously violate the ideals of the collusion nor its mandates; yet those transcendent ideals have the power ultimately to overthrow the debilitating ideals of the collusion. The subversion should not be immediately evident, lest awareness of it prompt collusion participants to rush to defend the ideals of the collusion by rejecting the proposed transcendent ideals. A direct attack against the ideals of a collusion or its mandates is likely to be counter-productive. Undermining a collusion is an ideological battle among ideals. Battles among the servants of those ideals are unlikely to undermine the collusion. Such battles among servants are more likely to result in renewed dedication of collusion participants to their narrow and unbalanced ideals, rather than to new insights into how their ideals are undermining their personal and communal integrities. The challenge is to propose transcendent ideals---and to show to collusion participants that the transcendent ideals are in fact more essential to personal and communal integrity---than are the ideals which the collusion is dedicated to serve. By their very nature collusions undermine both personal and communal integrity. The challenge is to help participants to recognize that tragic fact, and to experience the intellectual and affective dissonance that facing that fact engenders in normal people. Ideals generate motivation. Ideals are not purely intellectual and/or objective statements. Ideals have to do with affect and emotions, as well as objective goals. Humans can not be objective about ideals, because objectivity demands detachment and ideals evoke commitment or rejection. A collusion which demands its participants to be committed to objectivity, thus demands of its participants that they lack both personal and communal integrity. A commitment to objectivity as an ultimate ideal demands a non- objective commitment to avoid non-objective commitments. It is inconsistent! It lacks integrity. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
