It would seem that they are smart enough to take steps to overcome their alienation. If they do not have the right kind of "smarts" they are generally smart enough to develop the right kind of "smarts". Yet they do not. They are not alienated for lack of techniques, but because they do not care whether or not they are alienated. Their primary concerns do not include alienation as a matter of great concern, so they do relatively little about their alienation. In ancient time learned men tried to understand the motion of objects in terms of circular motion as the ideal heavenly kind of motion. All non-circular motions were to be understood in terms of circular motion as the best kind of motion. That ideal turned out to be misleading. It was not until Newton revolutionized the ideals and ideas regarding motion that non-ideal motion could be understood. When it was understood that non-accelerated motion was the simplest kind of motion, the ideal kind of motion, then accelerated motion could be understood as a departure from that ideal. Commonly idealists have regarded conformal human behavior as the ideal kind of human behavior. They have tried to understand, predict and control non-conformal behavior as perverted departures from proper conformal behavior. Conformal behavior has been called good or ideal. Non-conformal behavior has been called bad or evil. People have differed as to what behavioral ideals should be the standard for conformity as the ideal form of behavior to be copied by all good people. People who have refused to conform have been called bad, evil, agents of the devil and have been rejected as worthy of alienation; i.e., not worthy of dialogue, fellowship, communication or communal acceptance. Scientists have a different set of ideals than do most people who conform to their set of ideals as regards behavior. They are alienated from (and properly so, they think) people who do not accept their set of ideals. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
