Through our mutual fears we (through taboos and collusions) repress experiences which we can not yet understand. We forbid careful consideration, thought and communications regarding those experiences which we most fear---because we least understand them. Public sharing of visions, fantasies, hopes and fears about such repressed experiences are forbidden--- through tacit agreements and laws. Such tacit agreements embarrass any legislators who attempt to make them open and explicit in formal laws. Through a tragic feed-back loop our fears promote their own growth; our imperfect understanding inhibits further understanding, and even represses such little understanding as we may have. Our self- awareness is reduced and our mutual awareness is reduced. Because we fear the experiences which we can not understand, we can not share them. Because we can not share them, we can not think clearly about them; we can not experience them clearly; we can not understand them; we are forced to fear them and so we can not understand them---and so through our mutual fear we repress any clear awareness of them and repress any effort to clearly understand them. The feed-back loops form many interlacing cycles which undermine our personal and communal integrity---by inhibiting self- referential mutual awareness and communications. To think and act wisely we must be free to openly and honestly share our experiences and understanding. We must be free of the feed-back loops by which fear deprives us of the freedom to be open and honest about what is real to us. Whatever deprives us of the freedom to be open and honest is evil---in that it alienates us from each other and from our-selves. The short term advantages of the ideals which promote such evil consequences are advantages which are not worth the long term ultimate costs which they tragically lead to. We need to clearly articulate and agree upon transcendent ideals which will lead us to be free of disintegrative ideals which imprison us with fear-full feed-back loops. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
