People who are dedicated to sinful values go beyond negligence as regards being in dialogue; they make commitments to reject and excommunicate people who fail to conform to their definition of good behavior. Such "good" people commit themselves to using sin as a means to motivate others to conform to legalistic codes of conduct. Since most people fear rejection and excommunication, they quite often yield to the threats of such "good" sinners; i.e., promoters of alienation as a means to conformity. In the field of international diplomacy it is common for a nation such as the United States to refuse to be in communication with another nation such as Communist China, Communist Cuba, or the Palestine Liberation Organization. In these instances the diplomats have been dedicated to the resistance of the advance of Communism and to the promotion of the survival of the Jewish Nation State. Alienation between themselves and those who seek to promote conflicting positive values is used as a futile tool in the service of these lesser values. The alienation, the sin, undermines the positive values it is chosen to serve. As a tool, sin tends to destroy that which it is intended to serve. In the field of domestic family relationships it is common for parents to threaten to reject their children and to excommunicate them if they stray too far from the conformal lifestyle of the parents; and when the children stray a bit too far, the parents force them to stray all the way away. Sin is used to try to prevent straying, and in the end forces more extreme straying than the children sought. In the field of education teachers often use sin to try to force students to conform to their own academic set of values; and wise students often figure out that values which lead academics to use sin as a tool, are values which do not merit respect.
