Scientists are prone to concentrate their attention upon contexts in which their paradigms yield success. It is difficult for people to believe that what they are ignoring is important, or that what they spend most of their time on is unimportant. Thus scientists tend to regard contexts as important to the extent that in those contexts their scientific paradigm bears fruit. Scientists' paradigm tends not to bear much fruit in contexts which are characterized by human intimacy and reflexive considerations. Scientists are not very helpful when it comes to explaining, understanding, predicting, or controlling intimate human relationships and reflexive considerations. Scientists find it difficult to work with people because according to their metaphysics, people are not fundamentally real; people are not fundamental realities. Thus relationships between people are not fundamental relationships. Scientists cannot develop an epistemology which places great importance upon interpersonal relationships, because people are not important in the scientists' metaphysics. Thus scientists cannot readily perceive how interpersonal relationships play a fundamental role in all of the basic human perceptions and decision making which are central to objective scientific behavior. So long as scientists assume that personal perceptions are independent of inter-personal relationships, they are building on a questionable foundation. They assume that objectivity is independent of inter-personal relationships, that the nature of reality does not depend upon individual and communal decisions and reflexive considerations.
