What is respected is the courage and creativity to venture in attempting to do what others have not done. The creative society respects explorers of all kinds; geographic, literary, artistic, scientific, idealistic, ideological, religious, political, educational, etc. Respect is not reserved just for the successful; respect is awarded to many who try just because they tried. The creative society never punishes an explorer for not succeeding in an exploration; e.g., it never punishes an explorer for expressing convictions which do not become popular. In a creative society the members willingly compete at being creative---because they know that they can fail safely, with respect for their effort. New ideas are readily shared and tested. New lifestyles are dreamed up and tested, and the findings of attempting the lifestyles are openly reported so that others may benefit from the explorations. Old presuppositions are examined and new ones proposed for testing, and the findings of the explorers of presuppositions are openly shared. The creative society is not paralyzed by collusions and taboos which inhibit exploration and creativity. All conventions, expectations, and traditions are examined to see if they serve to promote humane dialogue and understanding. If some are recognized as inhibiting humane dialogue and understanding, alternatives to them are sought by explorers who are willing to venture where others have not yet ventured, because they know that their venturing will be respected for its own sake. In this way the creative society keeps alive by constantly adjusting to new conditions and environmental challenges. It is able to adapt and survive in situations which would destroy a conventional society stuck in traditions by collusions and taboos which occasion alienation that in turn inhibits creative responses to a changing environment. Central to a creative society is the respect for the communication rights of unconventional explorers. it is less risky to permit error to be expressed, than to inhibit the expression of the warning cry of the sensitive soul who perceives a danger which is invisible to conventional people.
