Intimate persons tend to be intellectually critical of trying to deal with feelings as data, for they perceive that the essence of emotions can not be understood and shared in keeping with the paradigms of the objective scientists. For theses contrasting reasons objective scientists and intimate persons find it difficult to cooperate through mutual sharing and understanding of their emotions---so as to deal effectively with objective problems towards which they find it impossible to be emotionally neutral; i.e., objective. The pre-conditions for meaningful communication do not exist when we try to deal with human feelings as data, thus people find it difficult to cooperate in sensitive and systematic ways---to deal with objective problems which arouse deep emotions. Neither the objective scientists nor the intimate persons can help resolve the dilemma by renewed dedication to, nor preaching at each other about, their complementary values and paradigms. The only way to help is to integrate both sets of values and paradigms in technically competent role models who are personally intimate. Such exemplars are likely to offend all objective scientists and intimate persons by their dedication to the values and paradigms which are complementary to the ones of the person offended. Thus exemplars are likely to be suffering servants who are not understood. The value of such exemplary role models to society cannot be measured according to the traditional criteria of either objective scientists or intimate persons. Neither the number nor quality of publications; nor of friendships---will reveal to evaluators their essential value. Traditional criteria are inadequate to serve as the basis for evaluating exemplars whose creativity transcends traditional values and paradigms. Thus political decisions pertaining to them are likely to be misguided. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
