The scientists who seeks to make scientific knowledge understandable to the ordinary citizen --- in the process seduces the citizen to internalize the most basic assumptions and biases which separate scientists from the rest of the population. The citizen's new perceptions are bought at a great price. How much they enjoy the seduction is no measure of how helpful it is to them as persons. Scientists often seduce non-scientists into accepting the notion that all important processes can be explained by scientists, that scientific laws explain all phenomena in all times and places. It follows as a corollary that love is not important, because scientists can not explain love in its fullness. Those who regard love as unimportant will not be seduced by lovers who do not respect scientists, thus scientists' seductions are a protection against other kinds of seduction. Scientists seduce people through the sweet fruits of their research, even though as pure scientists they disdain the process of cultivating the use of those fruits. They pay lip service to the sweetness of the fruits, but will not cultivate them, because it is beneath them to do so. They justify their works by the fruits of technological research and development, but do not relate their efforts to human needs in any personal way. As are many seducers, they are not fully open and honest about what they have to offer. Science teachers seduce emotionally immature students who have a deep need for a sense of security, invulnerability, certainty and complete understanding. They offer substitutes for the warmth of human understanding and affection --- which many students have not enjoyed. Thus they attract to their laboratories many disturbed students who do not have a well balanced personal development, and give to those disturbed students the tools which may be used for whatever purpose their confused motivations guide them to follow. Then they disclaim responsibility for the results. They say they have no control over the behavior of the students that they seduce. Science is value neutral because it is not personal.
