The welfare of a profession is best served if the students' creative potentials are developed to promoted the professions's special interests, to personally identify with those interests, and to direct students' creativity in keeping with those interests. Creative students must be identified early and induced to identify with a profession early---when they are most likely to hold members of the profession in high regard; admiring and trusting their leadership. Such early acculturation reduces greatly the problem of creative students directing their curiosity and creativity into investigations of the taboos, collusions, traditions, biases, and conflicts of interest which characterize the professions. Early acculturation reduces such embarrassments. Acculturation is most effective if students perceive a profession to be serving human needs. It is thus important to appear to dedicate the profession to meeting human needs through the application of its specialized techniques to meet human needs. The refinement and expansion of such specialized techniques will extend the ability of the profession to meet human needs, and so such refinement and expansion are worthy goals of the profession. Students should be encouraged to highly value the augmentation of the potential of the profession to meet human needs. Students' creative potentials can become fully dedicated to the refinement and expansion of professional techniques. By promoting such dedications it is possible to avoid the embarrassment of creative students who might ask how well the members of the profession are in dialogue with people, and how sensitive they are to personal needs which can not be met through the use of any techniques. Professions engage in political acts when they direct students' creativity; a limited community resource. The politics of professions tends to be even more invisible than the politics of closed door sessions in legislatures. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
