Gods must not be present in objects if there is but one God. Existentially it is difficult for people to identify with one unique God present in many different objects. It is much easier to identify with unique spirits present in unique objects, or in classes objects. Monotheists have driven personal spirits out of objects and left them depersonalized, just objects. God has been put "in heaven" or in a status which transcends the realm of objects, because he is not an impersonal object. Because there is but one God, objects can not be gods, and objects can not be personal; so a personal God can not be an object, and God can not be part of the objective universe. The objective universe thus becomes impersonal. It is ironic that monotheists in the name of a personal God have depersonalized the universe which was presumably created by a personal God and in which He incarnated the Holy Spirit. Because of objectification---the parts of the universe are not holy, lest they compete with the one God for status as the Holy One. Monotheism thus laid the foundations for the dichotomy between people as personal, and objects as impersonal---and so for the dichotomy between people as objects who are impersonal. Whether or not objects may be, can be, or are personal---depends upon the manner of approach. If it is taboo to approach objects in a personal way they will appear to be impersonal, perceived exclusively in the I-It way. The manner of understanding, knowledge, truth, relationship, and living will correspond to the I-It way of life; rather than the I-Thou way. By collusions the relative values of the I-It way can not be compared with the values of the I-Thou way---the costs and benefits are not compared---because their difference can not be seen. An impersonal universe may be described by impersonal laws which set patterns which may then be copied in legalistic efforts to get people to behave as predictably and reliably as depersonalized objects. It is impossible to determine objectively whether or not this is the will of the personal god in whose name the legalists serve. Visions and revelations of what life might be like in the I-Thou way---are blocked by exclusively impersonal objective analysis of the nature of the universe which is devoid of Spirit.
