(2) You had ample opportunity to make clear to the panel your set of most important values. (3) All members of the panel then gave you feed-back that convinced you that they all understood very well your set of most important values, and sympathized with your affirmation of them. (4) The panel voted unanimously to support the proposition that the values which you considered to be most important and those people who affirmed them were major contributors to occasioning a large fraction of the violence in the world. Would you then willingly seek a new conception of reality? When we are confronted with such judgments we tend not to change willingly. We tend to stick to our convictions, and to resist change. We feel we know what is good and defend it. We view those who judge our goodness as agents of the devil, and excommunicate them to protect our idols and our idolatry. In doing so we contribute to occasioning a large fraction of the violence in the world. Our alienative efforts to defend our exclusive values promote violence, and thereby undermine our exclusive values. Our efforts lack integrity, and so promote fragmentation, alienation, misunderstandings, etc. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
