The foci are parallel to each other and complementary, but not alike. Because of the similarity of foci we may substitute the foci of one brain for the similar foci of the other brain---as if they were adequate substitutes for each other. If our desires are prohibited by others we may repress them and substitute purposes in their place. If our ways of coping with situations according to deeply rooted instincts and intuitions are judged primitive, we may repress our primitive natures and substitute sophisticated scientific methods and techniques. If satisfaction through primitive pleasures are inhibited as animalistic we may become indifferent to them and substitute in their place rewards for achieving goals and fulfilling expectations defined by technically oriented others. In rebelling to such substitutions some of us may make contradictory counter affirmations which reaffirm our natures which facilitated our biological survival over thousands of centuries. This is joined the disagreement/conflict between people dominated by different brains. The disagreement/conflict can not be resolved in terms of the affirmations of either side of the brain. Only love can transcend the disagreement, the conflict, between the two brains. Efforts to assign a victory to one brain or the other will only intensify the conflict. The conflict may be transcended only by promoting greater communication between the two brains, not by actions which will inhibit communication. Efforts to sharpen the differences will not lead to victory over the conflict. Ideals, principles, and conceptions of perfection will not lead the way to what they purport to point; but to intensification of misunderstanding, blockages to communication, conflict, and violence. We need to seek out, recognize, and respect role- models who in their being and doing demonstrate that their two brains are in regular dialogue with each other and with other persons. Such real persons may lead us to transcend the differences which divide us---and enable us to satisfy each other's hungers. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
