Usually the grievant adopts a position of some degree of self-righteousness, and imputes to the GRIEVE some degree of evil, selfishness, ulterior motivation, or the like. Explication of wrongdoing involves the development of insight into how helpful such representation is. Those who stand to lose through explication of wrongdoing are likely to oppose it--and thus either the grievant or GRIEVE may oppose wise explication, depending upon which stands to lose through explication. Explication may often reveal that the conflict is a conflict between two or more positive values which are represented by servants of those values. The grievant and the GRIEVE may be servants to positive values which are in conflict; or, put in another way, they may be representative of cultures or sub-cultures which are in conflict. Each is seeking to be a faithful servant of the highest values that are personally known--thus the basis for self-righteousness on the part of both. The cultural matrix of the grievance procedure is thus likely to be the determinative factor in defining which person is in the "wrong" and which is in the "right". Such a judgment is culturally relative in most instances. Explication of wrongdoing will reveal the extent to which persons in conflict are servants of conflicting positive values. The process of conflict resolution then may transcend personalities, and pertain to the relative values of the conflicting positive values. The conflicting values will then have to be judged in terms of an ultimate values--such as the ultimate value of maintaining open channels of communication in accordance with Love. Explication of wrongdoing may thus help us avoid unjust accusations of unfaithful stewardship on the part of conflicting servants of conflicting positive values. Those in conflict may be faithful servants, seeking to be good stewards of that which their culture has given them--and they should not be accused of being unfaithful stewards, when in fact they are being faithful to the best that they know.
