Such people behave as if integrity was founded upon analysis, so that anything which resists analysis is a threat to integrity. Since genuine mystery does not yield to analysis, such people perceive genuine mystery as an ultimate threat to what they think is their integrity. They thus attack all mysteries in compulsive efforts to understand them, by reducing the whole to nothing more than the understood interactions between elementary parts. All mysteries are thus banished from experience --- by the terms under which understanding is sought. The successful banishment of mysteries is regarded by many as a sign of great human progress, progress which (in a mysterious way) will make life more meaningful, enjoyable, satisfying, etc. Those who subject themselves to the analytic imperative are blind to the (mysterious) way in which they believe that the banishment of all mysteries will (in a mysterious way) assure for them an increasing quality of life (which depends in essential ways upon the appropriate acceptance of mystery). Their collusions banish them from the mystery of meaningful living. Integrity pertains to wholeness, not to taken- apartness. Genuine human imperatives pertain to supporting human wholeness which comes through intimate communication. Integrity is not achieved through analytic skills; it is accepted through integrative living. Analysis should serve human needs to achieve wholeness. It should be engaged in when its ultimate effect is the promotion of personal and communal integrity. Analytic methods alone can not be the basis for deciding when such will be the case. Thus, people subject to the analytic imperative should not be trusted with great political power---lest they develop a technocratic society dedicated to analysis, manipulation, control, planning, judgementalism etc. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
