Our language, experiences, concepts, assumptions, culture, traditions, biases, prejudices, etc. may make some possibilities inconceivable and so impossible. It is not that we consider them, and with regret conclude that they are not possible. We can not even consider inconceivable possibilities---they are blocked from consideration. If their realization depends upon our conception of them, then they are to us impossible until we become free to conceive them. Even if their realization does not depend upon our conception of them, our perception of their realization may depend upon our being able to conceive them---and therefore we may be blind to their realization when it occurs. The identification of today's inconceivable possibilities is a difficult task. It involves the transcendence of the powers which in positive and negative ways block our ability to conceive new questions, new answers, new way, new realities. Such powers tend to be inconceivable themselves---and so hidden from view. They may be detected only by indirection in terms of their effects. The detection of inconceivable possibilities may be promoted by the consideration of phenomena which baffle our traditional perceptions to the extent of offending our traditional sensibilities. Such offense may be a sign of internal tension between our perceptual framework and the phenomena which is the occasion for offense. The offense may be a pointer to inconceivable possibilities--- realities which we through emotional immaturity may fear. Perception of such realities may require emotional growth, language development, cultural changes, examination of assumptions, exposure of biases, new experiences, new concepts, etc. The blockage perceptions and conceptions may technical or non-technical. It is difficult to distinguish between what is impossible and what was inconceivable but is now fantasized. We may wish for that which was blocked from our perception and also continues to be impossible. Making something conceivable does not automatically make it possible. The price of any actual realization may be too high. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
