Termination of a form of communication---or failure to use a channel of communication---is a form of excommunication. Those people who thereby are not in any communication of the given form are out of communication, excommunicated. Excommunication, like meaningful communication, is mutual. Without mutuality communication can not be verified through dialogue. Jack can not excommunicate Jill without excommunicating himself---blocking communication. Murder is the extreme form of excommunication. It terminates communication between the murderer and the murdered---along with terminating communication between the murdered and others. Execution is a special kind of murder, in which a group of people sanction the excommunication of a person through murder---thereby blocking future communications between the murdered person and others. Life imprisonment is another extreme form of excommunication. The imprisoned person and members of society are blocked from having free communication--- separated, estranged, alienated. Such excommunication is sin-full; full of sin which is the condition of alienation. Life is full of other forms of excommunication of less extreme forms when various forms of communication are undeveloped, inhibited, repressed, blocked, neglected, perverted, confused, etc. Each form may become inoperative for any of many reasons. There are many forms of communication: emotional, rational, affective, intellectual, sexual, mathematical, action, verbal, posturing, motion, facial, eye, inaction, written, oral, touch, color, odors, contextual, etc. The regular avoidance of any form of communication is likely to be a form of excommunication. When the formal educational process regularly promotes the avoidance of any form of communication it is contributing to the excommunication of the students, and therefore to the sinfulness of the society---since excommunication promotes sin. In a technocratic society emotional excommunication is built into traditional procedures; emotional communication is underdeveloped, inhibited, repressed, blocked, neglected, perverted, confused, etc. Likewise for other non-technical forms of communication---lest love undermine the technocracy.
