Technocratic values tend to inhibit expressions of love. Demands for ultimate concern for technocratic values thus tend to block love's call for a dedication to open communication and so blocks reconciliation which transcends sin and/or alienation. The conflict between the demands of technocratic values and the invitation of love's call is a conflict which generates a dis-ease called love sickness. The sickness is just as much attributable to technocracy as to love, perhaps more so. The sickness might more properly be called technocracy sickness---a sickness experienced by technocrats who somehow become subject to the threat of love's call. The cure of love sickness is not less love, but more profound love. The cure for love sickness becomes evident when the disease is called technocracy sickness. The cure is to transcend the technocratic culture's demands and adopt the perspective that it is normal and helpful to respond to love's call with its ambiguities, risks, and mistakes. Doing that which is regarded as normal and helpful does not generated dis-ease. The existence of love sickness in a society is a judgement upon the culture which directs that society. Since God is Love it becomes evident that love sickness is God's judgement upon the culture which promotes love sickness. The disease indicates that competition has been set up between God and values/ideals other than Love--- love sickness being the external manifestation of the internalized conflict. Sometimes the recommended cure for love sickness is a rededication to technocratic values; i.e., becoming desensitized to love's call. Such desensitization will reduce the conflict and so ease the dis-ease. It often is a successful cure---for which a price must be paid. The price paid is the cost of the crime, wars, metal illness, sexual dysfunctions, corruption, ecological crises, etc. which characterize technocratic societies. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
