The kingdom of heaven is a community where love is
universally accepted as the supreme law. Other laws are
subservient to love. There are other laws and they are
respected---to the extent to which they are supportive of
love. In the kingdom of heaven love rules over law,
rather than law ruling over love. Law promotes justice
because of love, not at the expense of love. Because
people love each other unconditionally, they seek to solve
their problems in ways which involve equity to the
greatest extent possible. Equity is not sought selfishly,
with each seeking to possess as much as the law will
permit. Equity is promoted through generosity with
respect for people's deepest desires, visions, hopes,
aspirations, and unique potentials. Justice is seen as
the process of maximizing all people's freedom, rather
than the process of maximizing self's freedom.
In the kingdom of heaven, power serves love to
promote justice under law. Power is guided by Love
understood as a dedication to unconditional openness.
Power serves love, rather than possessiveness. Justice is
judged by how well it promotes love, rather than by how
internally consistent its technical system operates. Love
is recognized as true by how well it guides power to
promote justice for all, not by superficial expressions
of feelings. Thus, true love promotes deep feelings which
are genuine, rather than conformity to traditional
expressions of unfelt respect. People are free to be
themselves in the kingdom of heaven. They are not called
upon to fulfill expectations which originate outside of
their real self. Excommunication is not practiced in the
kingdom of heaven.
The kingdom of heaven is known in the eternal now of
intimate relationships. It is not understood through
intellectual analysis. It is not found through an
objective search through the volumes of space-time. The
kingdom of heaven is at hand, in what we do with our hands
in our eternal nows of personal meetings. It is present
as we touch each other in love which gives meaning to our
power, justice, knowledge, techniques, and goals. The
kingdom of heaven has no gates, except for those
fabricated in the imagination of those who fear to enter
the kingdom.
