     Scientists    pride   themselves   on    objectivity,
rationality,   and thoroughness.   Yet,  they  like  other
humans  are unaware of their own collusions.   Because  of
their most basic presuppositions, attitudes, and emotional
lives,  they are blind to considerations which block their
perception   and  analysis  at  critical  points.    Their
arrogance  makes it impossible for them to  fulfill  their
own    criteria   of   objectivity,    rationality,    and
thoroughness.     An  increased dedication to  their  most
valued  goals will not open the way for them to reach  the
goals.   They must become willing to sacrifice their  most
cherished  goals  to  the service of  even  more important
considerations  relating  to  human   reconciliation---the
breaking  down  of  barriers to  human  communication  and
