     Too  often  unbalanced  development is  perceived  as
excellent.    This is the case  because  of  the  previous
unbalanced personal development of  the  critic making the
judgement.     Specialists  perceive  excellence  in   the
narrowness of perception and activity.

     Consider an allegory: The specialists and generalists
are  given  a  perimeter  of finite length  and  asked  to
construct  the  biggest possible geometric  figure.   Some
specialists might make a very long and  narrow  rectangle.
The  generalists might  make  a  very  short,   but  wide,
rectangle.  Neither will construct a circle which encloses
a maximum area for a given perimeter.

     The  development of a society parallels the  personal
development of the the society chooses as its leaders.  If
their development has been unbalanced, so also will be the
development of the society.   The society  will  emphasize
intellect,   the arts,  physical exercise,   manipulation,
analysis,  affection,  construction,  destruction,  faith,
doubt, suspicion, trust,  sexuality, violence, gentleness,
assertiveness,    systems,    spontaneity,    sensitivity,
rationality,  respect,  intolerance, generosity, etc. in a
way parallel to the role  which  they  have  played in the
