People seek to know ultimate reality. The reality
behind all appearances; what is it? He? She? Is ultimate
reality contradictory to our best understanding of the
apparent universe? To believe so is to chose insanity, to
lose contact with reality in favor of some fantasy
unrelated to the experienced universe. Such an exclusive
interest in a subjective reality with indifference towards
the experienced universe will be short lived; it cannot
survive long.
Is ultimate reality nothing more than our best
understanding of the apparent universe?. To believe so is
to chose arrogance; to believe that ultimate reality
cannot transcend our ability to understand; to believe
that there can be no ultimate mystery, ambiguity, or
vulnerability; to believe that lovers can fully
understand and control their love without destroying it;
to believe that the uncertainty principle at the atomic
level is not manifested in an uncertainty of the scientist
who participates in reality in efforts to understand it.
Is ultimate reality nothing more than the
personification of our own provincialism and fantastic
desires? To believe so is to chose to be foolish; to
believe that ultimate reality mirrors the conflicts of
interest and desires of all people who make such a foolish
choice.
Does our ability to see the foolishness of many
notions regarding the nature of ultimate reality---
constitute proof that no such ultimate reality sustains
the apparent universe? To believe so is to believe that
any creator capable of creating thinkers such as healthy
people thereby destroys the ground of being. Isn't it
arrogant for a creature to think that any creator capable
of creating the creature---thereby proves the
impossibility of the creator? Who made the creature so
central to the continued reality of the ultimate reality?
Perhaps there is an ultimate ambiguity under which
creatures will perceive their creator only in a mirror
darkly, but then face to face, in Love. If so, there
will never be full knowledge of the nature of the reality
behind such subjective perceptions of the ultimate
reality.
