The natural consequences follow through cause and effect from the nature of reality. The perceived nature of reality may follow as the natural consequence of the unexamined assumptions, collusions, and myths in which the self participates. Thus it is difficult for the self to distinguish the natural consequences --- from consequences which might be averted through integrative humane initiatives, imagination, fantasy, and efforts to minimize the consequences of human alienation. A young person is advised not to smoke marijuana because of the consequences. To what extent are the consequences natural consequences? Medical research is now being directed to discover some as yet unknown physiological consequences. But are physiological consequences the only identifiable natural consequences? Are the altered states of consciousness purely natural consequences are are they in part the result of human free choice? Is the human alienation which is often associated with the smoking of marijuana to be properly considered to be a natural consequence, and so a reason for regarding those who smoke marijuana as foolish, and so as not living up to expectations, and therefore not acceptable? The feed-back loop is self authenticating; but the process does not help real persons solve real problems or resolve human dilemmas. What then is the real nature of reality with respect to smoking marijuana? Similar problems of analysis are present with respect to other situations in which traditions declare certain behaviors as unwise because of the consequences. The domains of such situations are suggested by: drugs, sexuality, dress, religious rituals, dietary restrictions, human associations. How is mankind to receive wisdom when human analysis can not transcend its own unexamined assumptions? How is science to be in the service of mankind---when it has not maintained a mutual awareness of the limitations of science? How is society to decide what it might become, when it can not with clarity know what are the natural consequences, and what are the accidental consequences of its own immaturity and misdirected free choices with respect to decisions and action in political action.
