There are many factors which tend to produce human separation and thus produce the reduction of mutual awareness and mutual understanding. Those who presume to have the knowledge of good and evil---regard many of these alienative factors as good. In such a state of consciousness the value judgment is made that it is better to maintain standards---than to maintain communication. The maintenance of taboos, propriety, morality, standards of excellence, good appearances, righteousness, self-respect, etc.---rather than the maintenance of communication is the common pattern. The price paid for such traditional maintenance is alienation and estrangement. People may not fail-safe. They are expected to make themselves acceptable---and so they learn to expect themselves to make them-selves acceptable; to the point they are no longer free to accept acceptance without preconditions. They become divided selves who are estranged from self and others. It becomes taboo to point to experienced realities. Rationality is not a way out. Toward the end the strange languages of insanity may be used in dealing with finitude. An honest mutual understanding of the nature of reality becomes all but impossible. Only through a miracle does a way out come to be. Estrangement may be avoided and reversed if there be an honest focus on real persons---rather than on the hope which some have in certain techniques which they have devised to achieve salvation. The way to avoid and/or find the way out of estrangement is through a miracle as perceived from the estranged state of consciousness. The way transcends the estranged state of consciousness and can not be devised as a technique. Those who have become estranged through failure may seek to develop techniques to prevent or deny the reality of failure. This will often necessitate the removal of the foci of failures which were not prevented. Through the denial of such persons---estrangement is intensified. Through full control---the feed-back loop operates via cause and effect---to produce natural consequences other than those planned. Estranged attempts at full control generate more alienation and estrangement. (c) 1999 by Paul A.
