The primary experience is not only a function on the other and its past, but also of the self and its past. Differing selves thus participate in differing realities even though the other may be "the same". There is no humane way of determining the nature of reality whose existence is independent of all selves. Many natural scientists participate in a myth that there is some way of so doing, without realizing that they are participating in a blinding myth. Jack pours all the water from a narrow base glass into a wide base glass and observes that there is now less water. That there is less water is real to Jack and he says so to Teacher. Teacher, whom Jack accepts as authority, informs Jack his wrong and that there is just as much water now as before. Jack so learns that he can not observe reality accurately and so can not be a scientist like Teacher. Since Teacher is an authority and has power over Jack, it is necessary for Jack to recite what Teacher commands. Jack learns that theory and reality are unrelated. Jack learns not to think, but to recite. Jill is intimate with Jack. Both discover new selves they did not know before and become more together than they were before. Preacher says their experiences are unreal because they had not met the prerequisites for their decisions and action. Preacher says either that powers that transcend cause and effect or that the natural consequences of their decisions will invalidate their transcendent experiences, and that later they will be sorry. Jack and Jill learn that they can not experience reality truly and so can not become saved like Preacher. Since Preacher is an authority and has power over Jack and Jill, it is godly for Jack and Jill to recite what Preacher teaches. Jack and Jill learn that spirituality and reality are unrelated. Jack and Jill learn not to relate, but to recite. Jack-and-Jill become the reality WE over and against Teacher-and-Preacher who become the reality THEM: WE never meet THEM in authenticity. Where there is no authentic meeting there are no creative persons and there is no life. Persons cease to live. (c) 1999 by Paul A.
