A person may be completely sincere, and be arrogant at the same time. A person may be dedicated to self- transcending principles and engaged in a sincere search for truth, and be arrogant at the same time. A person may be deeply concerned with the distinction between good and evil, and be arrogant at the same time. A person may be highly respected and regarded by others as a great authority, and at the same time be arrogant. A scientist who is unaware of the extent of the limitations of science and relatively unaware of real persons, is likely to be arrogant. Exorbitant claims of rank, self- estimation, or self-importance are likely to be made via channels of communication of which the self is unaware, and of which others may be unaware. Via collusion participants in playing dishonest games may modify the nature of reality so that it to them appears as other than it is with integrity. It is possible for some persons to gain a realistic mutual awareness and mutual understanding of the nature of reality if they are in dialogue with persons of differing states of consciousness. Technocrats will find this to be a great challenge, if not impossible, so long as they cling to the conviction that their techniques are superior to and of greater practical importance than are the ways of non-technocrats. Maintenance of such an exorbitant self-estimation is exclusive of full mutual awareness and mutual understanding, of the nature of reality. Others find it difficult, if not impossible to be be in dialogue with a self engaged in maintaining an unrealistic self- image due to a lack of the freedom to accept the real self. Such is the nature of alienation. It matures into estrangement. Because of the limitations of science there are not within science acknowledged principles in terms of which value judgments may be made, and value structures created, which will justify the decisions and actions which are the political actions of scientists. So long as scientists thoughtlessly assume otherwise, they will remain arrogant, and therefore be unable to become attractive scientists---because they are not free to accept acceptance.
