Thinking that there is little that we can do to address the Systemic-Dilemmas without first gaining a lot of Traditional-Power within the institutions. In gaining what we regard as the necessary Traditional-Power we are likely to fall into the trap of becoming increasingly complicit in being responsible for the Systemic-Dilemmas by buying into the prevailing/dominant: attitudes, assumptions, ways-of-framing-questions-and-issues, etc. The "higher-up" in the power-strucutre we rise; the more alienated we become from those lower in the power- structure and/or the victims of the concentrations of power in people like ourselves. 2. Thinking that the experiences of people who are poor, thirsty, hungry, naked, homeless, etc. lack real authority --- because all powerful authority is perceived to reside higher-up-in-the-power-structure. The stories told by "the-poor" about their own experiences are discounted as irrelevant and not authoritative; because they have not been published in refereed scholarly journals. 3. Thinking that the Systemic-Dilemmas are actually Technical-Problems which can be solved by technical- experts who know many Manipulative-Techniques for fulfilling Properly-Devised-Plans which are chosen by people with Great-Power-and-Wisdom-and-Wealth. 4. Thinking that because we do not have Great-Power- and-Wisdom-and-Wealth there is nothing which we can do to help resolve the Systemic-Dilemmas which oppress us and our friends. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in "Search for Honesty and Integrity" (On Being Yourself Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
