Reconciliation, cooperation and collaboration. 2. Healing and health, 3. Personal-and-communal Integrations-&-integrities, 4. Distributive-justice, 5. Mutuality-and-balance, 6. Coherence, respect, trust, and reverence, 7. Generosity, hospitality and civility, etc. Within our own contexts and/or situations those behaviors, preoccupations, desires, intentions, attitudes, etc. which stand in the way of promoting and facilitating the above desiderata --- do NOT merit as much respect, trust or reverence --- as those will which will be most helpful and integrative in the promoting and facilitation of the above desiderata. Priorities cannot be set wisely in a manner which is divorced from our own current context and/or situation. Rank-ordering of priorities cannot be done prudently, wisely or helpfully without regard for our own current context or situation. It is IDOLATROUS to worship any truth, ideal, value, principle to be treated as an ABSOLUTE and/or ULTIMATE-CONCERN --- without regard for our own current context or situation. Thus, no ONE book, authority, scripture, doctrine, commandment, prescription or community can define what should be the nature of our ULTIMATE-CONCERN. Domineering people who are idolators will, of course, disagree with the importance of this spectrum of considerations --- because they want to be dominant and in control so as to accumulate FOR-THEMSELVES more power, wealth and privilages by undermining: distributive-justice, honesty, gracious-dialogue, mutual-understandings, balance, health, healing, etc. In light of the above, we cannot determine for other people what should be their priorities, any more than they can determine for us what should be our priorities. None of us can be helpfully DOMINANT or IN-CONTROL. All attempts by people to be DOMINANT or IN-CONTROL are ultimately: alienative, prejudicial, biased and disintegrative. EVIL-RELATIONSHIPS flow from all such efforts. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
